Plastimo
Founded in 1963 by Antoine Zuliani. Plastimo is a small French family business, located in La Base in Lorient, the French Sailing Valley. This company specializes in the production and distribution of fittings and equipment for the boating industry, pleasure boating and maritime professionals. Plastimo is an emblematic brand of the yachting industry and has been accompanying sailors and yachting professionals for years well beyond the French borders. Known for its range of products andequipment for safety at sea such as life jackets, life rafts equipped with polyurethane air chambers or compasses and navigation instruments, the brand has built its reputation as Plastimo in the world for nearly 50 years. The ranges also include deck, mooring and onboard comfort equipment and Plastimo manufactures a large part of its flagship products in Lorient.
THE HISTORY OF PLASTIMO
In 1984, the company, which had been family-owned until then, was acquired by the American group Johnson Worldwide Associates, known for their Johnson waxes. Two years later, the group sold Plastimo to one of its directors, who then put in place the entire marketing process of the company and restructured the teams as well as its products and their commitment to safety and ergonomics. The objective is to provide pleasure to the skier and service to the professionals. He also decided to create subsidiaries dedicated to distribution in Europe. A few years later, Plastimo bought several of its distributors and competitors in France and abroad: in Spain, Sweden, Italy, the Netherlands... (Plastimo, Goïot, Nuova Rade, Dauriac Nautic Sécurité, Accastillage Bernard, XM Yachting, Max Power and Lofrans)
In 2003, the group was renamed Navimo. Both manufacturer and distributor, with a communication focused mainly on their flagship products such as life rafts and life jackets. Precursor of the DECCA and the first portable GPS in France. Navimo will be acquired in 2012 by Alliance Marine, while the subsidiary Goïot will be taken over by the Kent Marine group. The objective: to improve customer service and internalize the logistics activity.
However, the company is not finished yet, since in 2006, Alliance Marine is bought by the French fund Weinberg Capital Partners. In addition to its traditional activity, the company diversified into sectors other than boating, acting as a subcontractor in the manufacture of bulletproof vests for the French armed forces. In 2019, Plastimo Distribution will take over Navimo and Topoplastic to become Plastimo Group. All this history contributes today to the brand's influence in nearly 100 countries around the world.
