WHY CHOOSE NEOPRENE SALOPETTE ?
The neoprene salopette allow to warm up the body during nautical activities. They are not waterproof but they contain a thin layer of water between the neoprene fabric and the skin to protect the body from outside temperatures. Close to a neoprene pants, the salopette protect the legs as well as the torso and back. It leaves the arms very free to move, which is particularly interesting for activities like kayaking, kite-surfing or light sailing. Finally, it is also a little easier to put on and take off than a neoprene suit.
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR NEOPRENE SALOPETTE?
To find the right neoprene salopette for your needs, several criteria must be taken into account.
Choosing your salopette according to your nautical activity
We will start to define for which activity the salopette will be used. Depending on the water sport, you will need more or less flexibility in your arms and legs. Although neoprene salopette are common in scuba diving, they are also very effective for surface activities. Some models offer knee protection, which is particularly useful for light sailing.
The sport you practice also determines how much you will be exposed to the water. A thicker sleeveless neoprene suit is generally chosen for surfing than for stand-up paddling because of the difference in immersion time in the water.
What thickness for my neoprene salopette?
Next, you need to choose the thickness of the neoprene salopette, so that it is adapted to the temperature of the water you will be in. In temperate water, a 1 mm long-john will allow you to stay in the water for a very long time. The thickness of neoprene salopette is expressed in millimetres and can have one or two numbers. One number indicates the thickness of them on the whole surface. When there are two numbers like 3/2 mm, it means that on the top of the salopettes (torso and back), the neoprene will be 3 mm thick and on the legs, 2 mm thick, thus ensuring a good flexibility on the lower body.
